Common problems

5
  • Voltmeter shows high voltage
Fix: Test the voltage at alternator terminal B+ and it should be usually(27~28.4) V. A normal voltage indicates a larger voltmeter calibration value error, and repair or replacement is required.
  • Unstable charging voltage Failure4
Fix: A. Alternator and related belt is loose, belt slippage. Tension alternator and related belt. b. The joints of charging circuit get loose causing bad connection Inspect all connections of charging circuit. c. Dirt accumulation at slip ring, excessive wear of electric brush, or brush spring is weak or broken Remove dirt, or replace electric brush and its spring. d. Regulator damaged. Replace the regulator.
  • The fault symptom still exists after the above tests finished.
Fix: Replace the alternator regulator, rotor or alternator.
  • Charging indicator does not light
Cause: Terminal voltage of alternator excitation terminal is too low, indicating power of excitation circuit is too small or there is poor connection of circuit
Fix: Adjust the power of indicator lamp or test circuit connector and start the engine to connect the wire from terminal E to terminal D+
  • Abnormal noise from alternator Failure 5
Fix: A. Deformed alternator mounting bracket or getting too close with external engine body Improve the mounting bracket strength and adjust mounting condition. b. Alternator belt is loose causing slipping Replace the alternator belt. c. Loose alternator pulley Tighten pulley d. Alternator bearing oil shortage or damaged Replace the alternator bearing e. Muffled noise from the inside of alternator Stator coil is short circuited, and should be replaced. f. Whistle noise from alternator changing with speed. It is a noise produced by vibration of stator core vibration, and replace stator assembly if necessary.
