Procedures

12
Ground insulation test diagnostic

⚠ Electrical installation by qualified electrician only.

Tools: voltmeter (AC)

  1. Switch off all on-board electrical devices.
  2. Start generator.
  3. Measure AC voltage between generator housing and AC-Control box.
  4. Measure AC voltage between generator housing and ground.
  5. Measured voltage must not exceed 50 mV.
  6. Test RCD if installed.
Ventilating air from fuel system at first operation installation

⚠ Catch fuel with cloth or absorbent paper.

Tools: cloth or absorbent paper

  1. Switch main power switch on control panel ON.
  2. Push and hold failure bypass switch.
  3. Run electric fuel pump audibly for 3 to 4 minutes.
  4. Unscrew bleeding screw of solenoid valve while holding switch.
  5. Close screw when fuel runs out without bubbles.
  6. Release failure bypass switch.
  7. Start generator with START button.
Checking battery maintenance

⚠ Battery gases are explosive; keep sparks and flames away.

Tools: hydrometer

  1. Keep battery clean and dry.
  2. Remove dirty clamps; clean terminal posts and clamps.
  3. Grease terminals with acid-free and acid-resistant grease.
  4. Check electrolyte level: 10-15 mm above top of plates.
  5. Top up with distilled water if necessary.
  6. Measure electrolyte density with hydrometer at about 20°C.
Checking oil level maintenance

⚠ Burn hazard: generator and coolant can be hot.

Tools: paper towels or cloth, oil dipstick

  1. Place generator or vessel level.
  2. Run generator about 10 minutes to warm engine.
  3. Wait 3 minutes for oil to drain back.
  4. Assure generator against accidental start and open casing.
  5. Pull out oil dipstick and clean it.
  6. Insert dipstick, wait 10 seconds, pull out and read level.
  7. Refill if level is below 1/3; ideal level is 2/3 between min and max.
Cleaning raw water filter maintenance

⚠ Do not seal leaking cover with adhesive or sealant.

  1. Close water cock.
  2. Release raw water filter.
  3. Beat filter basket to remove debris.
  4. If water seeps through cover, check sealing ring.
  5. Replace sealing ring between cap and filter holder if necessary.
De-aerating coolant circuit at first filling maintenance

⚠ If air bubbles prevent circulation, generator may overheat.

  1. Open cooling water cap on cooling water tank.
  2. Fill prepared coolant/antifreeze mixture slowly to max level.
  3. Connect electric cooling water pump to external DC supply and start.
  4. Refill cooling water at filler neck while pump runs.
  5. Circuit is self de-aerating; check circulation repeatedly.
De-aerating fuel system maintenance

⚠ Catch running fuel.

Tools: container

  1. Place container under fuel return pipe.
  2. Take off plug at starter motor solenoid.
  3. Switch panel ON.
  4. Press START button; fuel pump runs audibly.
  5. Switch panel OFF, then ON, and press START again.
  6. Repeat until fuel flows from return pipe without bubbles.
  7. Switch panel OFF.
  8. Attach plug at starter motor solenoid.
Exchanging engine oil and engine oil filter maintenance

⚠ Burn hazard

⚠ Used oil is toxic; dispose properly.

Tools: open-ended wrench 17 mm, oil filter wrench, container, oil resistant mat, paper towels

  1. Run generator about 10 minutes; wait 3 minutes.
  2. Assure generator against accidental start; open casing.
  3. Place oil resistant mat and collection container under drain hose.
  4. Unscrew oil filler cap to prevent vacuum.
  5. Open oil drain screw using 17 mm open-ended wrench; drain oil.
  6. Remove used oil filter or clean oil screen on EA300 engines.
  7. Clean filter holder and apply thin oil layer to new filter seal.
  8. Screw in new filter by hand; refit drain screw with new sealing.
  9. Fill engine oil, checking level after every 2 liters.
  10. Run engine 10 minutes; stop and recheck oil level.
  11. Dispose of used oil and filter properly.
Refilling engine oil maintenance

⚠ Do not exceed Max mark.

Tools: engine oil, oil dipstick, paper towels

  1. Check oil level as described.
  2. Pull oil dipstick out of check rail.
  3. Open oil filler cap.
  4. Fill in approximately 1/2 liter of engine oil.
  5. Wait about 2 minutes for oil to flow into oil pan.
  6. Wipe dipstick and insert into check rail.
  7. Pull dipstick and check level.
  8. Repeat filling steps if level is still below 2/3.
  9. Close oil filler cap and clean any spills.
Replacing air filter mat maintenance

Tools: hexagon wrench

  1. Loosen six hexagon head screws on frame cover.
  2. Open air suction housing.
  3. Change air filter mat.
  4. Close cover again.
Replacing fuel filter element maintenance

⚠ Clamp inlet before exchanging filter.

Tools: wrench

  1. Clamp fuel inlet before exchanging filter.
  2. Remove hoses from used filter and fasten to new filter.
  3. Observe arrow on filter housing for fuel flow direction.
  4. For sight glass filter, unscrew housing left hand.
  5. Unscrew old filter element left hand.
  6. Screw new filter element into mount.
  7. Lubricate sight glass O-ring with heat resistant antiseize grease.
  8. Screw sight glass back right hand.
Replacing raw water impeller maintenance

⚠ Close raw water stop cock before opening pump.

Tools: multigrip pliers, screwdriver

  1. Close raw water stop cock.
  2. Remove raw water pump cover by loosening wing screws.
  3. Pull impeller from shaft with multigrip pliers.
  4. Mark impeller position before removal.
  5. Check impeller for damage and replace if necessary.
  6. Lubricate impeller with glycerin or silicone spray.
  7. Insert impeller on pump shaft in marked position.
  8. Fasten cover using a new seal.
