⚠ Do not smoke or allow flame, spark, pilot light, or arc-producing equipment near fuel.

1. After assembly and before initial operation, test all fuel system connections, hose, valves, regulators, and fittings.
2. Use soap-and-water or equivalent solution while system is under gas or air pressure of at least 90 psi (620 kPa).
3. Other approved leak-detection methods may be used if appropriate.
4. Do not make this test with a flame.

⚠ Exhaust gases can cause severe personal injury or death; make compartment walls vapor-tight.

Tools: Onan template 539-1383

1. Install the genset in its own compartment; use vapor-tight walls if any part is above the vehicle floor.
2. Measure compartment size for proper clearance; add 1/2 inch depth if 1/2-inch insulation is used.
3. Put holes in compartment bottom for genset mounting, air outlet, and oil drain.
4. Put holes for fuel line, battery cable, remote control harness, and AC conduit.
5. Mount genset with four 5/16-16 screws; maximum protrusion through base is 1/2 inch.
6. Shield exposed above-floor exhaust pipe with the Onan-supplied exhaust shield.

⚠ Do not connect battery cables until instructed in Initial Start and Checks.

1. Route fuel line separate from electrical wires or separate them with conduit or sheathing.
2. Gasoline: connect 1/4-inch I.D. SAE 30-R7 fuel hose to the barb fitting; secure with stainless steel clamp.
3. LPG: connect 3/8-inch I.D. fuel hose to the barb fitting; secure with stainless steel clamp.
4. Install listed 1/2-inch flexible conduit over AC wiring and secure to genset fitting.
5. Connect battery positive cable to B+ connection on start solenoid.
6. Connect battery negative cable with 3/8-inch ring terminal to ground on left side of base.
7. Route remote control connector through left-side access opening and connect to mating connector.

⚠ Exhaust gas presents the hazard of severe personal injury or death.

Tools: U-bolt clamp

1. Connect installer-supplied 1-1/2-inch O.D. (1-3/8-inch I.D.) exhaust pipe to genset with a U-bolt clamp.
2. Do not terminate the exhaust tail pipe under the vehicle.
3. Extend tail pipe at least 1 inch (25.4 mm) beyond the side or end of vehicle.
4. Support tail pipe as close as possible to outside of vehicle.
5. Protect tail pipe below departure angle with skid bar, trailer hitch, or frame member.
6. Ensure no vent, window, or opening into living area is within the triangular area.

1. Pry the bottom of the crate sides and ends out from the wooden skid base.
2. Carefully lift the crate off the genset and discard it.
3. Remove the plastic bag and collect loose shipped items such as the Operator's Manual.
4. Remove mounting bolts securing the wooden skid to the genset base ends.

⚠ Dropping the generator set can cause severe personal injury or death.

Tools: Forklift

1. Use the template to locate holes in the vehicle support structure.
2. If area above compartment is wood, install 26-gauge galvanized metal plate above genset.
3. Assemble the Under-Floor Housing kit according to its instructions.
4. Securely mount hanger brackets and side panels to the under-floor support structure.
5. Assemble front and back rails to the genset.
6. Use a forklift to carefully raise the genset into the support frame.
7. Secure rails to support frame with mounting hardware included in the kit.

⚠ Batteries produce explosive gas; do not smoke or allow arc-producing devices in battery area.

1. Perform the Installation Review described in this section.
2. Check engine oil level; remove and clean indicator, insert into filler neck, add oil slowly to Full mark if low.
3. Check battery terminals and cable connectors are clean and dry.
4. Connect positive battery cable first, then negative cable last.
5. Review the Operator's Manual and open fuel supply valve if equipped.

⚠ Do not operate the generator set with the access cover removed.

1. Rotate access cover fasteners one-quarter turn clockwise so arrows point right.
2. Pull the top of the cover away from the housing.
3. To secure, position the bottom of the cover over the base.
4. Push the top in and turn fasteners one-quarter turn counterclockwise so arrows point up.

1. Move Remote Start/Stop switch to START.
2. Engine should crank and start as indicated by indicator light on switch.
3. If it does not, check all remote control connections, repair if necessary, and restart.
4. Check battery condition meter if equipped.
5. Move Start/Stop switch to STOP to stop set.

⚠ Do not operate generator set inside any room or building.

1. Move Start/Stop switch to START; engine should crank and start.
2. Allow more cranking if needed to prime fuel system.
3. After start, check for fuel leaks; stop set immediately if leaks are found.
4. Examine exhaust system for leaks; stop set and repair immediately if leaks are found.
5. Operate set with normal load and monitor fuel supply, exhaust, performance, and noise.
6. Move Start/Stop switch to STOP to stop set.
