Common problems
15- Partial loss of residual in rotor.
Fix: With plant operating, jumper from E2 to heat sink of field rectifier Z until voltage begins to build-up. Then remove. - Pair of field rectifiers open (either W & Z or X & Y).
Fix: Test rectifiers and replace if defective. - Output, voltage slow to build . up and higher than rated volt- age after build up
Cause: Open circuit in one or more control rectifier.
Fix: Test rectifiers and replace if defective. Check soldered connections to rectifiers. - Output voltage slow to build up and ten to twenty percent above rated voltage after build up
Cause: Open in one field rectifier.; If field rectifiers Y and Z check okay, check continuities of gate windings Gl -G2. - Output voltage slow to build up and five percent below rated voltage after build up
Cause: Voltage regulation poor
Fix: Either field rectifier W or Z shorted. Test rectifiers and replace if defective. - Output voltage slow to build up
Cause: Circuit breaker opens in about five seconds
Fix: Either field rectifier X or Y shorted. Test rectifiers and replace if defective. - Output voltage builds up normally with slightly less than rated voltage at no load and low voltage at full load
Cause: Compound winding Sl - S2 installed backward or has open circuit.
Fix: Check wiring diagram for polarity of compound windings ' through reactors A and B and test for continuity. - Output voltage builds up normally but less than rated voltage after build up
Cause: Shorted winding in control reactor.
Fix: Test control reactor and replace if defective. - Output voltage builds up normally but 20 percent above rated voltage after build up
Cause: Voltage regulation poor.; Compound winding S1-S2 installed backward through one reactor (A or B). - Output voltage builds up normally but 150 to 200 percent above rated voltage after build up
Cause: No regulation possible. Control winding C1-C2 of reactor A or B polarized incorrectly.; Shorted turn in control winding C1-C2 or reactor A or B.; Open in control circuit. - Output voltage builds up normally but 125 to 150 .percent, above rated voltage after build up
Cause: Shorted turn in gate winding Gl -G2 of reactor A or B.
Fix: Test reactors A and B for shorted turns and replace if defective. - No AC power to Magneciter.
Fix: Check AC voltage at E1-E2 with the plant operating. Voltage should be five percent of the rated voltage. If not, check continuity from El -E2 back tb generator. - Generator will not build up voltage.
Cause: Circuit breaker in 'off' or 'tripped' position.
Fix: Reset. and close breaker. - Generator voltage fluctuating while engine running at constant speed
Cause: Incorrect setting on stabilizing resistor.
Fix: Check resistance and reset. - Both field rectifiers X and Y shorted.
Fix: Test rectifiers and replace if defective.
