Procedures

5
Install Battery(s) maintenance

⚠ When replacing batteries, use the same number and battery type.

  1. Install battery.
  2. Connect positive (+) cable.
  3. Connect negative (-) cable.
  4. Connect, turn on or plug in battery charger to restore power to it.
Remove Battery(s) maintenance

⚠ Disconnect charging source prior to connecting or disconnecting battery terminals.

⚠ A battery presents a risk of electrical shock and high short circuit current.

  1. Turn generator controls to OFF position. Unplug, turn off or disconnect any battery chargers before removing battery cables.
  2. Remove negative (-) cable.
  3. Remove positive (+) cable.
  4. Remove battery.
ECU Override operation

⚠ ECU override is only applicable if the ECU is unpowered when in STOP mode.

  1. Select STOP mode button (K) on the DSE controller.
  2. Press and hold the START button (F) to power the ECU; as controller is in STOP mode the engine will not start.
  3. Continue to hold the start button for as long as the ECU needs to be powered.
  4. The ECU will remain powered until a few seconds after the START button is released.
Prestart Checks operation
  1. Verify all guards and covers are in place and fastened tight.
  2. Check entire machine for loose hardware; tighten all loose hardware.
  3. Fill fuel tank with fuel.
  4. Check engine coolant hoses for damage and loose clamps.
  5. Check engine oil level on dipstick; must be between min and max; add recommended oil if necessary.
  6. Check coolant level in radiator; add coolant to proper level if low.
  7. Check engine and alternator for signs of damage, water, oil or fuel leaks.
  8. Verify intake and outlet air vents and grills are not obstructed or blocked.
  9. Verify there are no obstructions in engine intake air filter tube.
  10. Check fuel filter/water separator for water or contaminants; drain if necessary.
  11. Verify battery cables are properly connected and tight.
  12. Once engine is started, warm engine with a reduced load before applying full load (does not apply to emergency power generators).
Starting The Engine operation
  1. Select manual mode.
  2. Press the start button to crank the engine.
